A WhatsApp number check answers one question: does this phone number have a WhatsApp account? The Digital Footprint API answers it in one request, alongside Telegram and any of the other messaging and social platforms a number can be checked on (WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter)). Each platform is priced separately and only billed when it runs, and the same call can return the carrier, line type and a phone risk score.
Send the number in E.164 form. With no platforms named, the default set runs - WhatsApp and Telegram - and each comes back as one row with registered and checkedAt.

}A phone number can be checked on WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter). Name exactly the ones you need and only those run - and only those are billed. Leave the list out and the default set runs.

}Per-platform prices for every plan are on the rate card, and the estimator works out a monthly bill from your volume.
On POST /v2/lookup, set checks.footprint.early and the platforms run one at a time, in the order you named them, stopping as soon as enough accounts are found or the time budget runs out. Platforms that never ran are refunded automatically, so an early answer costs less than a full sweep rather than the same.
A mobile number that has had a WhatsApp or Telegram account is a number somebody actually uses. A freshly issued VOIP number with no messaging account anywhere is a very different profile - common behind bonus abuse, fake accounts and mule accounts. Pair the platform check with the phone intelligence module (validity, carrier, line type, VOIP class, SIM swap on higher plans) and the phone risk score reads both together, with every fired signal named so a reviewer can see why.
The check confirms whether an account exists for a number that a person gave you or that is already part of a case - for signup risk, KYC and fraud prevention. It returns no account contents, and it is not for locating or monitoring people. Our terms say so, and our privacy policy covers removal requests.
